Melhem Resigns from ALAA After Years of Celebrating Lebanese American Heritage

For years, Mr. Nehme Gerges Melhem, president of Melhem Scientific, poured his efforts into the American Lebanese Awareness Association (ALAA) as Vice President and Chair of the Fundraising & Events Committee. Under his leadership, the association celebrated Lebanese American heritage, awarded scholarships to deserving students, and hosted inspiring speakers in the Merrimack Valley, raising the bar for community engagement and opening doors for countless young voices.

Yet over time, Melhem’s vision has grown beyond the shape and scale of any single community organization. At Melhem Scientific, he’s now spearheading a global effort to forge cross-disciplinary partnerships, linking researchers in public health, medicine, and policy across continents, empowering underserved populations, and driving breakthrough innovations. That mission demands his full attention and top-level stewardship.

It’s precisely because his ambitions now transcend ALAA’s scope that he’s chosen to resign from all ALAA roles and channel his efforts where it can accelerate the world-changing research he’s uniquely equipped to lead.

As Sir Winston Churchill proclaimed in his address at Harvard University in 1943:

‘The empires of the future are the empires of the mind.’

With that charge, we entrust our president, Mr. Melhem, to build an intellectual empire, one that transcends borders, disciplines, and communities to advance world-changing research and innovation.
